Natural Nutrition for Cleansing and Renewal

Harmful Materials in our Diets

Written by: Zvika Koren

Natural nutritionist, expert in Juice fasting and cleansing

Introduction

From my personal experience both as therapist and as patient, I have found the need for an encompassing method to prevent disease and to treat it. Despite the considerable progress made over the past few years in the treatment of disease, the treatment of acute and chronic diseases leaves much to be desired. Unfortunately, in a large number of cases it is impossible to help patient or the help extended is partial and temporary.

Nutrition is a major facet of our lives and we make use of it daily. Despite the fact that this is largely a theoretical discussion, it does include a number of practical applications. Most people do not want to hear about harmful materials. This however, does not change the fact of their existence (lack of knowledge does not prohibit punishment). Try to remain open and flexible, even if some of the facts seem rather odd and it seems as if there is nothing left to eat or to look for in supermarkets, restaurants and pizzerias. I have no intention of turning you overnight into naturalists. Any change is well worth doing gradually, preferably with supervision and training. I will not speak today about food nutrients, vitamins and mineral, though these topics are important.

The natural school of thought claims that most diseases (approximately 90%) stem from an incorrect life style, malnutrition, lack of physical activity, smoking, alcohol, stress, negative thinking, environmental pollution and so on. Only a small percentage of diseases result from a genetic, organic defect which can be treated.

When we talk about balanced and/or natural nutrition, it is not enough to eat natural, fresh or organic food. It is important to know about the materials that are harmful to health and to abstain from using them or at least reduce their use considerably.

Most people eat far too much of the wrong kind of foods. Subsequently, they reach a state of malnutrition subject to all kinds of diseases and other symptoms that stem, on the one hand from a lack of essential nourishing materials, vitamins and minerals, and on the other hand from a surplus of harmful ingredients. This is particularly noticeable in feeding infants and children, who are “silenced” by sweets and then have no appetite for real food.

Some of the symptoms resulting from malnutrition are not considered by doctors and by the public to be illness. Headaches, tiredness, the common cold, allergies, heartburn, constipation, gases, hemorrhoids and insomnia are all, in fact, signal sent by the body to indicate lack of functioning and the stress of various bodily systems. If we disregard the signals, we are awarded by even more serious signals: migraines, ulcers, the flu, pneumonia, rheumatism, colitis, kidney stones, diseases of the liver, diabetes, CFS, heart attacks and cancer.

It is estimated that about 70% of all cases of cancer are connected to diet. The National Cancer Institute estimates that one out of every three cases of death due to cancer is connected to nutrition. In 8 out of 10 cases of cancer, nutrition is one part of the overall causes (Dr. Dorit Nitzan, Director of the Department of Nutrition, Ministry of Health).

Remember: Our body is not a garbage pail that can take whatever you happen to throw in. The body is a wonderfully sophisticated machine. None the less, it is limited in its capacity to contain, neutralize and remove poisons from its systems.

What Damages do Harmful Materials Cause?

They cause gradual poisoning, disturbances in the absorption of vitamins and minerals, chronic and acute disease, allergies and a weakening of the immune system. Also, they are a burden on the waste disposal and cleansing system and they upset the nervous system (nervousness).

What do Beneficial Materials Cause?

Beneficial materials restore, strengthen and help in the disposal of poisons. They help in digestion and in the absorption of food. They fortify the immune system and calm the nervous system and lead to a state of balance.

Harmful Materials

Pesticides and Chemical Fertilizers: Used before planting, after sprouting and before harvesting in the case of fruit. There are systemic materials that penetrate the fruit and there are local materials on the leaves only. There are materials that do not immediately evaporate. There are pesticides for home gardens (against cockroaches, ants and mosquitoes) and there is deep-water poisoning. There is danger from air sprays and from vehicular transportation. There are anti-fungal, herbicides and pesticides. There is a new disease, as yet unfamiliar to doctors: M.C.S – Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, saliva and phlegm secretions, confusion, dizziness, head aches, difficulties in attention and breathing, tremors, tiredness, difficulties in vision, digestive problems, diarrhea, allegories, muscle aches, sterility, systemic poisoning and damage to neurotransmitters.

Hormones:  Can be found in food from an animal source. Animals are injected to fatten them up, to calm them, or so they should yield more produce (meat, eggs, milk, young animals) DES.

Symptoms: They can influence the reproductive system and the sexual appearance.

Food Additives: (Food coloring and flavoring, preservatives, fixatives): Most of us are used to checking food packaging for percentages of fat and for quantities of salt or sugar. However, we are oblivious to the amount of chemicals that are added on to foods. They are of no nutritional value, but they are added on to make the product look better (improve the coloring), taste better or be preserved for a longer time without spoiling. Many of the food products we eat were collected, produced and packaged quite some time ago. For this reason, manufacturers add on material so that the food will appear to be fresher than fresh.

We take in to our bodies materials that we are not aware of. Despite the fact that most of them (there are about 5,000) are not considered harmful by the FDA, this does not mean that they do not cause damage to the body.

Types of food additives: Acids, Acid Regulators, Foaming Agents, Foaming Preventatives, Antacids, Whiteners, Thickeners, Fixatives, Rising Agents, Colors, Emulsifiers, Hardeners, Softeners, Coloring and Flavoring, Gelatins, Glazes , moisturizers, gases for packaging, preservatives and sweeteners.

Symptoms: Allergies, hyperactivity in children, digestive problems, asthma attacks, cancer.

Artificial Sweeteners (Cyclamates, Saccharine, Aspartame, Acesulfame-K, suralus (splenda)):

Cyclamates: Were prohibited for use in the United States in 1969. They were found to cause cancer, health problems in the digestive system, diarrhea, fetal damage, damages to the kidneys and were also found to stunt growth. In Israel, they are still used in diet dairy products and others.

Saccharine: Was prohibited for use in the United States in 1977. It was found to cause cancer to the urinary tract in laboratory animals. In Israel, it is still in use.

Aspartame: Is to be found in approximately 5000 food products. At 29 degrees it breaks down into three poisonous components (formalin, formic acid and methanol). It was approved for use in 1982 and since then there have been official reports of 7000 cases of poisoning, when in fact there have been over a millions cases that went unreported. It is found in diet drinks and food, medications (under the name non-active materials), vitamins, milk-based treats, gum, diet sweets, jams, cakes and as an artificial sweetener.

The FDA has received reports on 92 symptoms such as:

· Muscle & joint ache

·  Cramps

·   Numbness&prikling

·  Shortness of breath

·  Dizziness

·     Epileptic-like Attacks

·      Headaches

· Ringing in the ears

·      Loss of taste buds

·      Depression

·  Anxiety

·      Insomnia

·      Slight Stuttering

·  Impaired Vision

·      Memory Loss

·      Rapid Pulse

·   Diarrhea

·      Nausea

·      Weight Gain

·   Weight Loss

·      Thirst

·      Burning Urination

·

·      Fetal Damage

Deterioration in an Existing Disease

·  Itching of the Skin

·   Diabetic Complications

There is evidence of deterioration in existing diseases: CFS, Epilepsy, Parkinson,
Mental Retardation, Diabetes, Arthritis, Alzheimer, MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and Cancer. Doctors err and treat these phenomena as if they were the disease itself.

The American Air Force warns pilots against use of Aspertime. There have been reports of pain, dizziness, loss of direction and vertigo.

Acesulfame K: Is an artificial sweetener present in diet drinks, gum, pre-prepared tea. It is called Sunette or Sweetone and has found to be a cancer inducer.

Permissible Sweeteners: Stivia, Honey, Molasses, Rice Syrup.

Coffee: Is an addictive “enervating” substance that can cause loss of calcium, digestive acid and acid in the blood.

·      A third of the world’s population drinks coffee

·      Caffeine (found also in tea, cocoa, cola and other medications) is a drug that induced addiction.

·      Every roasted food is unhealthy and suspicious as a cancer inducer (because of benzopherine-4).

·      Positive Influence: It triggers and stimulates the nervous system and helps increase pulse rate. It clears thought processes, gets rid of tiredness and allows for an exerted physical or spiritual effort.

·      Negative Influence: Its influence is short-term. It causes changes in blood pressure, rapid pulse, surplus acid in the stomach, restlessness, tension, excitement, nervousness, mental disturbance, insomnia, a rise in blood fats and cholesterol, calcium leakage and damage to the absorption of vitamins and minerals (it’s a diuretic).

·      In exaggerated quantities it can damage the heart and the tissue of the large intestine. Research has proved that drinking 5 cups a day has caused ulcers and heart attacks.

·      Research has shown that coffee may cause organic damages.

·      Decaffeinated coffee is no less harmful and it retains the same harmful materials that lead to surplus acidity in the stomach (acids and heavy metals).

·      Kicking the habit must be done gradually.

·      Coffee substitutes: herbal tea (rosemary), chicory, chico, roasted cereals.

Chocolate

·      An energizing food that contains 55% fat, 15% protein, 10% starch

·      It contains a number of harmful substances:

o       Caffeine

o       Oxalic acid (in coffee and in tea) leads to kidney stones

o       Theobramine like in caffeine

o       Saturated fat- cholesterol, triglycerides

o       Dimetilxantin – can cause breast tumors.

·      Causes acne, weight gain, heartburn, constipation, migraines, kidney stones, dental caries, heart disease and itching.

·      A link has been discovered between breast tumor and substances found in chocolate.

Tea

Contains less caffeine, however it also contains harmful substances such as tannin, which inhibits vitamin and mineral absorption.

Alcohol

Alcohol suppresses the central nervous system. Alcohol is poisonous and addictive. It is high in starch and “robs” the body of essential nutrients necessary to our health. It damages the liver (cirrhosis), the brain, the stomach; causes calcium leakage, high blood pressure, heart disease and fetal damage. It affects attention span and judgment (Eat, drink and be merry, “under the influence”) Alcohol causes adherence of red blood cells which prevents oxygen transmission to minute veins and blood vessels.

Long Term Influences

¨         Suppression of the central nervous system (reduces anxiety, tension, inhibitions and alertness)

¨         Damages attention and judgment, slows down physical responses

¨         Leads to aggressive and violent behavior, slurred speech and double vision

¨         Leads to loss of balance, nausea and vomiting, and loss of consciousness

Influences and Dangers in Extended Use

¨         Physical and psychological Dependence

¨         Diseases of the liver (infections, cirrhosis, fat liver, cancer)

¨         Heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke

¨         Stomach infections and ulcers

¨         Dementia and mental deterioration, personal and social difficulties

¨         Anxiety and depression (fetal damages, dysfunctional development, miscarriage, underweight, mental retardation)

¨         Contraindications with various other drugs

Research conducted and publicized in the “Maccabi” health organization’s publication, it was found that drinking alcohol increases chances of cancer in the upper digestive system.

Coca Cola

Cola is an extremely potent acid. (Phosphoric acid). It contains a high level of sugar (7 teaspoons in a can): Cola can cause calcium leakage, dental damages, and the damages caused by caffeine.

Salt

Sodium (Do you add insult to injury?)

The average diet contains from 10 to 50 times the amount that is considered safe. Aside from table salt, there is a lot of sodium in food additives such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), bicarbonate of soda, sodium nitrate, in baked goods, in jams, in preserved meat and in soft drinks.

It has been found that salt causes:

·      Increased build-up and inhibition of body fluids (edema)

·      Loss of flexibility of blood vessels

·      High blood pressure

·      Over-acidity in the stomach, cancer of the stomach

·      Migraine headaches, strokes, distress and tension

·      Damage to the kidneys

·      Expansion of the left ventricle of the heart

·      Asthma; calcium leakage

·      Aggravation of PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome) symptoms

·      Connection to toxemia of pregnancy

Only one gram of salt (sodium) is needed per day. It is not recommended to consume more than 5 grams per day (a teaspoon contains 7 grams).

Red Meat: Is not suitable for the digestive system. It requires cooking and salting, the killing of animals, economic aspects. It contains saturated fats and cholesterol, antibiotics, hormones, disinfectants, tranquillizers and parasites. It can cause over-acidity and an increase of decaying germs in the intestines. It can cause a calcium leakage, a surplus of protein, overweight and a surplus of phosphorous – also connected to calcium leakage. It puts extra pressure on the kidneys and the liver and can lead to heart disease, infections and pains in the intestines, weakening of the kidneys, rheumatism. Lack of fiber can result in constipation and cancer of the large intestine.

Sugars: Sugar is “pure” calories. It does not contain any of the food nutrients needed for body building and metabolism. It “steals” materials from the body. People today consume about 30-50 teaspoons a day. This amounts to about 80 kilo sugar in a year, most of it found in processed food such as sweets, cakes, cookies, jams, rolls, milk treats, jelly, pudding, sauces, soft drinks and breakfast cereals.

Damages: Damage to the immune system, imbalance of sugar levels in the blood (diabetes and hypoglycemia), acid reactions in the blood, overweight, high blood pressure, blood fat, heart disease, ulcers, constipation, calcium leakage, depression, bad temper, anxiety and hyperactivity.

Milk Products

contains left-over medications, hormones and disinfectants and can cause

·      Allergies (breathing, skin, digestion)

·      Saturated fat and cholesterol, a direct link to death by heart disease

·      Lactose intolerance

·      Lack of iron; juvenile diabetes

·      Cancer of the ovaries, osteoporosis, cataracts

·      Colic in infants

Sweets and White Flour Products

(bread, pasta, pizza, cakes, cookies): these products eat up minerals and create acid reactions in the blood. They trigger the nervous system and can cause overweight, heartburn, calcium leakage and weakening of the immune system.

Saturated Fats: Animal fat, margarine, coconut and palm. Damages to blood flow, to the arteries, and heart disease.

Margarine and poly unsaturated fats: are created by heating oil to 260 degrees and adding on an atom of hydrogen (hydrogenation), using nickel and aluminum.

Damages:

¨         The nickel and aluminum accumulate in body tissue and damage the functioning of enzymes and body metabolism.

¨         Weakening to protective ability and durability of cell membrane – permits the penetration of germs and poisons.

¨         Damages cholesterol production and raises the LDL level thought to be the cause of arterial disease.

¨         Increase the level of apolypo-protein-A that has been found to be a risk factor in heart disease.

¨         Increases the production of a hormone that causes infections (prostaglandin E2) and blocks infection-preventing hormonal activity (prostaglandin E1, E3). Contributes to heart disease and arterial sclerosis.

Smoked Food: contains nitrates that preserve the meat. Combined with amino acids in the body these create nitrosamine which is a cancer inducing substance (stomach). This is also created in frying.

Fried Food: contains at least 2 carcinogens (acrylamid, benzophyren-4) and poisonous oil

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG):  Flavor enhancer that is found overtly in Chinese food and latently in a variety of other foods. It is dangerous to people who are allergic to it. It can cause headaches, pressure in the chest, and burning sensations in the hands and neck. Also called: the white poison.

Ulstra: An oil substitute that is found in various snack foods. (chips, tortillas). According to the FDA it can cause stomach ache, diarrhea, and can prevent the absorption of vitamins that melt in oil (E, D and A).

Cigarettes: are addictive. They can cause emphysema,  lung cancer, heart attack, contracting of blood vessels, stomach acidity, increase in cholesterol, self-destruction, damage to others and fetal damage. Major substances that cause damage: carbon monoxide, nicotine, tars.

Withdrawal symptoms: nausea, weight gain, drowsiness, fatigue, insomnia, lack of attention, depression and a yearning for cigarettes.

Short term influences: contraction and narrowing of blood vessels, increased heart beat, increase in blood pressure, a decrease in urine production

Long term influences:

¨         Physical addiction and psychological dependence, an increase in blood fat.

¨         Heart and arterial disease (high blood pressure, stroke, angina pectoris, thrombosis)

¨         Over-acidity in stomach, ulcers

¨         Lung disease (cancer, emphysema) and the decrease of oxygen release from body tissue

¨         Negative influence on pregnancy (decreased rate of fetal growth, underweight, and an increased rate of natural miscarriage).

¨         Cancer of the lungs, throat and mouth; damage to facial skin, increased consumption of Vit’ - C.

¨         Decreases and disrupts the influence of medication. Increases the need for insulin in diabetic patients.

¨         Dangerous to passive smokers.

Smoking causes approximately 30% of all cancers.

Almost 90% of all lung cancer patients are smokers or former smokers.

3% of the remaining 10% are passive smokers (Prof. Ben-Ami Sela, Sheba Medical Center)

Every year about 5,000 people die from smoking and about 800 from passive smoking.

Medication: Poisoning (there are no medicines without side effects), addiction, treatment of “symptoms” that “lower temperature” but disguise the more severe underlying disease (ulcers, cancers) contraindicated medications; medicines can cause constipation and/or diarrhea; they can disrupt vitamin and mineral absorption, they can damage the liver and cause bleeding in the digestive tract (aspirin). Medicines can cause a chain poison reaction: (E.G.: You take medication for constipation or diarrhea, you get head-ache, allergies, kidney failure, dialysis, liver failure-death).

Chlorinated and Fluorinated Water:

Fluoride: helps build teeth and bones and prevents bone depletion. A lack of fluoride can lead to cavities. A surplus of fluoride can damage the bones and possibly cause bone cancer, pelvic splintering, teeth decay, kidney damage and damage to the functioning of muscles and nerves. It can also harm the central nervous system. It can accumulate in brain tissue and it can lead to fluoride poisoning – pleurisy.

Sources of fluoride are in cabbage, canned fish, spinach, potatoes and milk.

Chlorine: Is a disinfectant. It destroys micro-flora in the intestines and harms cell membranes.

Other substances: cigarettes, medicines, cosmetics, sprays, talc powder, shampoo.

Summary- The sources of poisons and harmful substances

1.    External sources – penetrate the body through the respiratory system, the digestive system and the skin

¨  Pollution, air, water and environment, noise, radiation, radioactive substances

¨ Food additives, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, hormones, medications, insecticides, heavy metals in food.
